PDBOPI Statement on Dark Peak Peregrine Death

The Peak District Bird of Prey Initiative notes with concern the news that a peregrine falcon was recently found shot on the RSPB nature reserve in the Dark Peak on land owned by United Utilities.

The RSPB and Derbyshire Police have appealed for more information relating to this incident through their website and Facebook.

The shooting of such a species from within the Peak District National Park is deeply concerning but we take comfort in the knowledge that peregrine numbers are at a national high and are regularly sighted in and around the Peak District.

Until such time that further information can be gathered we urge all interested parties to avoid unhelpful speculation and give the police the time to carry out their investigation.
